Currently, Spotify uses Ogg Vorbis on desktop and mobile computers and AAC for online players. For the HiFi mode, the company did not go into further information about bit rate and codec. Spotify claims its latest HiFi mode will allow existing devices and Spotify Connect-enabled speakers to provide “CD-quality” audio.
Spotify has announced plans to launch Spotify HiFi, which will eventually enable audio to be streamed losslessly.
